Program

The program was focused on creating the most residential, normalized and therapeutic setting for those with early and mid-stage dementia. Twelve private units with full baths were complimented with an open residential kitchen, dining room, library, living room, beauty shop, laundry and assisted bathing spa.

Site

An existing single-family ranch house in a wooded lot was remodeled and additions built.

Solution

The basic layout of the existing house was kept in-tact although significantly remodeled, with an open living room with large windows to the south and views to the Flatirons and two sided stone fireplace presenting itself upon entry. The residential kitchen opens to the living room and dining room, making the activity of cooking and dining a central activity. Fine residential finishes create a warm and homey atmosphere. All materials, lighting, bedroom and bathroom layouts were carefully designed to support those with confusion, wandering, and to calm and soothe.
