A new assisted living level memory care project of 22 private units to infill a market need on an existing CCRC campus.

Solution

The overall campus site was already very densely developed. An enclosed courtyard was created with an existing “L” shaped building by forming a matching “L” with this new building. Dining, Living, and all commons spaces face the courtyard and open to it, creating a safe wandering garden. To keep the scale of a longer building more homelike, the building was composed as a series of distinct pieces, looking more like a residential street than an institution. All units are private, and include a window seat, full bathroom, and specially designed wardrobe for those with dementia. Dimmable and circadian lighting add comfort, flexibility and additional therapeutic tools.
